livejournal technical question

Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!
Is there a way that I can read other people's posts using the style of my journal (i.e., the colors and font size)?  I have a vague memory that this is possible, but I don't remember the details.  Some journals I try to read are really hard to see because the font is tiny or the color combinations are hard to look at.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I was a little too star-struck to successfully convey to the boys that the concept of a velvet painting was meant to be funny.  I think they thought I was extremely serious about this and extremely proud of this.  Since they both seem to be polite and respectful people, they also took the whole thing pretty seriously.  c'est la vie!

If you'd like to commission your very own velvet painting of Sam & Dean, you can send a note to sales@velvetpaintings.com.  To see other velvets, you can check out the galleries at www.velvetpaintings.com.

Suggestions needed...

Hypothetically speaking of course, if you were to immortalize Supernatural in the form of a black velvet painting, what image would you choose?  Any suggestions?

My birthday shenanigans

flight suit, Hangliding, birthday
I celebrated a big, fat, round, must-never-be-spoken-of birthday this past weekend, and I had some extremely generous, patient, and adventurous friends who were willing to celebrate it with me.  One of them was also up for creating an LJ post about it, which I have now high-jacked for my own purposes.

Yay!

Is this happening to anyone else?

Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!

Lately, every time I open my Friends page, a Death Cab for Cutie song starts playing.  It's pretty aggravating, considering I usually have something already playing and I have to go find that stupid little player buried deep down the page to pause it.  So, my question for the group is:  is this some kind of LJ advertising/widget or is this embedded in someone's post?

Burglary Update

First, thank you everyone for being so supportive!  I really appreciate it.

I called the police immediately after realizing that i'd been burgled (I have to admit I love using the word...), but it took LAPD four days and 10 phone calls before they showed up.  The guys who came, however,  were very cool and apologetic that I had to wait that long.  They even told me i should call their watch commander and bitch at him about it.

I am going to get an alarm system, and I'm going to put together a home inventory with pictures, and remember to back up my computer, and .... take every prudent precaution that I didn't bother with before.

My house was BURGLED yesterday!!

Dean's Bitchface
I'm so pissed off.  Someone came into my house rifled through my stuff, freaked out my cats and stole my laptop and my grandmother's antique diamond ring (along with some other random and cheap jewelry).  He stole one of my pillowcases (presumably to carry the loot) and left an ASS PRINT on my couch.  Has anyone else had this happen?  Any advice on what to do next?

Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to navigate through the friends page?   Is there a way to jump directly to where you left off reading or something?  Am I making any sense??

ETA: Also, what does it mean to "flag" an entry, or "track" an entry?  Is there a user's guide somewhere that I've overlooked?

Warning: this is rambling...

Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!

I've got no strategy or specific purpose for this post other than to jump right into the water and start posting. (hence the rambley-ness)

Let's get started then, shall we?

I went to Comic Con this past weekend.  Woo hoo!  I only had a pass for Sunday, but I went down Saturday morning anyway just to hang out with friends and get settled in.  We were all there to see the Supernatural stuff (all conveniently scheduled for Sunday) so one of us (the lovely

[info]pippinlove) was in line by 5 minutes till the ass-crack of dawn.  We sat (suffered?) through the Smallville panel, but that was a small price to pay for getting awesome seats for the Supernatural panel.

My baseball game date was ultimately kind of a dud.  He was an oddly juvenile guy.  He said he never watched R rated movies because they were too violent.  (What is he?  12?)  I can definitely appreciate making violence one of the factors you use to choose a movie or not, but the MPAA ratings are hardly the way the go with that.  Then he went on to clarify that he watched PG, PG13 and X, but not R.  Really, dude?  That's what you're gonna tell me on the FIRST frickin' date??  The conversation then turned to deep metaphysical topics like The Secret (!) and the fact that he believes in ghosts because of the scientific evidence.  hmmm.  There was also some chatter about how "reality is nothing but intention".  I zoned out at this point because I realized that I had just missed seeing a double play because I was trying to decipher this gobbledygook.  Annnyway, we're not a match made in heaven....

I went to a speed dating thingamabob last week.  Matched with a couple of guys so we'll see how that goes.

I'm going to see Wanted on Sunday.  yay!  \o/

Okay, that's enough rambling for now.

What have you done?

- I have a blind date tonight. We're going to the Dodger game. I enjoy going to the ball park, watching games, drinking beer, but I have to admit that I enjoy the "event' of it more than the "game" of it.  Sooo, I was hoping to get some quick info so I don't come off as a completely clueless idjit.

How are the Dodgers doing?
Who's ahead in the standings?
Has anything remarkable happened in the last little while that I should know about?

-In other news, I single-handedly replaced the fill valve on my toilet the other day.  Woo hoo!  I am not on the best of terms with home improvements and repairs.  The relationship usually starts off well enough, but falls apart very quickly, with a lot of swearing and phone calls to my dad.  I often take a break somewhere in the middle to eat ice cream and play on the internet.  Eventually though I get back at it and beat the thing into submission.

- I'm headed to Cincinnati next week for work and I'm actually pretty excited about it.  I lived in Beavercreek, OH (near Xenia) when I was a kid and I might rent a car and take a drive up there to see the sights.

LJ musings and Story finder group

Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!

Hi friends! Sorry I almost never post.  I still haven't gotten into the groove of this yet.  I mean things happen in my life, I'm not sitting immobilized on a log, yet nothing seems like much of anything anyone would want to hear about... Plus my friend list is a mix of 1) people I know somewhat well and expect to get to know better, 2) people I've met in person 2x at most, and 3) people I've never met at all.

I realize that this scenario is probably true of most people and somehow they manage to post things, and I enjoy reading those posts, so I should consider just getting over it and posting anyway.   hmmm.  I'll have to let this percolate.

In the meantime, I'm trying to locate some SPN fiction that I know I read here on LJ.  I think there's a community that can help, but I can't locate them either!!!  GRR.  (Does anyone else find LJ's search functionality excessively awkward and fairly useless?).  The stories I'm looking for are set in the future.  Sam is married to Sarah from "Provenance" and Dean is married to Ava (who isn't dead).  They each have a few kids.   Sound familiar to anyone, or can someone point me to the storyfinder people?

SPN Finale Par-tay

I'm not sure if this will work right.

I hosted a little shindig for the finale.  [info]scaperanya took a lot of cool pictures and put together a little write-up of the festivities, so here is a link to that....

Many thanks to [info]scaperanyaand S for coming over and injecting some fun into watching that gut-wrenching show.  Oh Dean!!!

Here's another link to more pictures...

What does a broken foot feel like?

  • May. 11th, 2008 at 5:28 PM
Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!
I did the Revlon 5K Run/Walk yesterday and today my foot is killing me!  It was already hurting a little before we even started, but now it's much worse.  The side of my foot, just in front of the ankle bone, is sort of red like a bruise, but I don't remember doing anything that would have caused a bruise.  I guess I don't really suspect that it's truly broken though, because I wouldn't have been able to walk 5K on a broken foot, would I?

On a lighter note, I had a "wardrobe consultant" come by my house yesterday.  It was awesome!  She's a friend of a friend and her real job is something else entirely, but... she loves clothes and has great instincts so closet consulting has become a little side-endeavor.

We spent three hours going through every stitch of clothing I own, trying most of it on, and then deciding what to keep or chuck.  Who knew?  Apparently, I have a lot of clothes.  Anyone who knows me and, especially anyone who sees me day-to-day, would be shocked to hear that I have that many since I probably wear the same pair of jeans and the same 6 tops every single week.   She's coming back next Saturday to help me put together a "look book" that will have pictures of outfits that I can put together myself.  (Don't laugh!  :)  I need an annotated guidebook for this!)  The cool thing is that I have unwittingly bought a lot of great clothes over the years.  I just never quite knew what to do with them once I had 'em.  So, she already has quite a bit to work with.  I'll still need to go find a few things but that'll be pretty painless.

My very first post on LJ

Since it was the show Supernatural and its online  fandom that led me here to LJ, I think it only fitting that my first post be related to that.  What do y'all think?
